Barkinka, which refers to the traditional African headrest used by original Somali nomads, is chosen here to symbolise the last besieged piece of dignity left standing. When the rest of the body is buried deep in the dirt, barkinka is what supports and keeps our heads off the ground, even though we may be asleep.
